Recently, Nerium International Independent Brand Partners Rosa and Steve Engelman helped organize their second successful Bowl For Kids’ Sake event at Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township, Michigan. Together, with matching funds from Nerium, the couple delivered more than $10,000 to Big Brother Big Sisters (BBBS) of Metropolitan Detroit. “It always makes us and everyone who participates feel great to help out in such a fun way,” Steve said. “We know this event directly goes to help match kids with Bigs, so it’s worth all the effort to pull it off.” Steve added that turnout and support were strong from friends and family but the couple is hoping more local Independent Brand Partners will come out next year!

Come Together

As a Big Brother, Steve loves to participate in Bowl for Kids’ Sake to help his local agency raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Steve became a Big Brother in 2014 and was matched with 9-year-old Seth in January 2015. At the time, Seth and his three siblings had lost both of their parents.

“Seth and I have been meeting every other week. Recently, we ran a 5K together and he liked it so much that he signed up for the school track team. We also just celebrated his 12th birthday last week,” Steve said. Rosa and Steve have two kids of their own, and Steve says his kids love getting involved with Seth and BBBS and they understand the effect this program is having on Seth. The couple believes that their kids love getting involved every chance they get.

“Both Seth and I look forward to our time together and our friendship continues to grow with every outing. I’m sure that our friendship will result in a life-long friendship that will continue to bless us both,” Steve said. He says that the mentoring programs through BBBS are “a gift that gives you the ability to serve God and to be a shepherd to one of his children.” For this reason, Steve encourages each and every person to consider getting involved in one way or another to assist and promote the mission of BBBS.

According to their most recent Annual Report, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit matched 837 at-risk youths with professionally supported mentors in 2015. While 378 were matched in community settings, 459 participated in school-based mentoring. Additional programs supported by BBBS are Bigs in Blue, Children of Military Families, and Children of Incarcerated Parents.

Exceed Expectations

Since 2012, Nerium International Independent Brand Partners have raised $4.5 million dollars for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Throughout the year, Nerium Brand Partners raise funds with monthly commission check donations, Lemonade for Littles, Live Happy’s International Day of Happiness, and our Get Real Conference fundraiser. Nerium International also sponsors BBBSA’s National Conference each year. Nerium International was the proud recipient of the BBBS 2015 President’s Award, which is the highest corporate partner award.

American politician John C. Crosby once said, “Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.” Imagine how true this is for a child.
